A rainbow flag is a multi-colored flag consisting of stripes in the colors of the rainbow. The actual colors shown differ, but many of the designs are based on the traditional scheme of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet. The use of rainbow flags has a long tradition; they are displayed in many cultures around the world as a sign of diversity and inclusiveness, of hope and of yearning. There are several independent rainbow flags in use today. The most widely known worldwide is the pride flag representing gay pride. The peace flag is especially popular in Italy and the cooperative flag symbolizes the international co-operative movement. It is also used by Andean people to represent the legacy of the Inca empire and Andean movements. ( source ) Thank you Olli!

The national flag of the Republic of Macedonia depicts a stylized yellow sun on a red field, with eight broadening rays extending from the centre to the edge of the field. It was created by Pr. Miroslav Grčev and was adopted on 5 October 1995. Thus it is one of the world's newest flags. Red and yellow have always been considered the main colours representing Macedonia, probably because of the colours of the historical coat of arms of Macedonia. The new eight-rayed sun represents "the new sun of Liberty" referred to in the national anthem of the Republic of Macedonia. ( source ) Thank you Ana!

The Abbey of Corvey, lying on the River Weser, was founded in the 9th century with the support of Emperor Louis the Pious (Ludwig der Fromme) as a Benedictine monastery with monks coming from Corbie in Northern France. The Abbey became an important center of culture until it started to decline in the late Middle Ages. During the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) the abbey was severely damaged. The west end of the church, built in 885, survived, and the remaining of the church was rebuilt in Baroque style. In 1803 the abbey was secularized and finally dissolved.
