Bank Bridge is a 25-m-long pedestrian bridge crossing the Griboedov Canal near the former Assignation Bank in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The special popularity of the bridge was gained through angular sculptures of four griffins crowning the abutments. There is a legend still propagated among the citizens that if you rub a griffin’s paw, you will inevitably make a fortune. ( source ) Thank you Galina!

The Russian Empire was a state that existed from 1721 until the Russian Revolution of 1917. It was one of the largest empires in world history, surpassed in landmass only by the British and Mongol empires: at one point in 1866, it stretched from eastern Europe across Asia and into North America. Kursky railway station, the biggest one in Moscow, dates back to 1860, when the first station building was constructed for the Kurskaya railway. P.P. Melnikov – minister of means of communication himself used to select the area for building up. His choice was unique: at that time it was the only Moscow station located beyond the city boundaries.
