A map card from Wyoming! The famous scented stamps! They smell like watermelon and bubble gum! Super cool! I'm sad that USPS had to cancel the stamps so many times and they are covered in a lot of ink. Thank you, Elena!

Random Act of Smileness

Image
Seems that I have been selected to receive a Random Act of Smileness! The Bingham Canyon Mine is an open-pit mining operation extracting a large porphyry copper deposit southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, in the Oquirrh Mountains. It is the deepest open-pit mine in the world. The mine has been in production since 1906, and has resulted in the creation of a pit over 1.2 km deep, 4 km wide, and covering 7.7 km². According to Kennecott, it is the world's largest man-made excavation. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine. The current flag of the U.S. state of Georgia was adopted on May 8, 2003. It has three red and white stripes and the state coat of arms on a blue field in the upper left corner. Thirteen stars surrounding the seal denotes Georgia's position as one of the original thirteen colonies. On the seal three pillars supporting an arch represent the three branches of government; legislative, judicial and executive. A man with sword drawn is defending the Constitution, whose principles are wisdom, justice and moderation. The date 1776 represents the signing of the Declaration of Independence. South Carolina state flag. Crescent portion of the flag was designed by Col. William Moultrie in 1775 to match the emblem worn on the hats of S.C. troops and the color of their uniforms. Palmetto tree added later to represent Moultrie’s heroic defense of the palmetto-log fort on Sullivan’s Island against the attack of the British fleet on June 28, 1776. (from the card) Thank you Carly!
